Strategy Session: Needs In 2015 Recruiting

Coming off a 2-10 season and many questions surrounding his standing as Virginia head coach, Mike London has his work cut out in class of 2015 recruiting. He and the rest of the Cavalier coaching staff must carry on despite what surely will be difficult recruiting conditions, and with that in mind let’s look at what their focus will be in class of 2015 recruiting.

Virginia’s current scholarship projection for the 2015 season stands at 70 players. An FBS football program is allowed 85 scholarship players each season, which means, if everything stays the same, UVa would have 15 scholarships available in class of 2015 recruiting. Factoring in roughly 10-percent attrition (per VBHOO’s historical analysis), Virginia should be able to take 21-22 players in this class. Given how fluid the numbers can be, a full class of 25 players wouldn’t surprise when all is said and done. UVa has one commitment in the class already in Juan Thornhill, a safety prospect out of Altavista (VA).

By position, the 2015 season scholarship breakdown is as follows:

– 5 QBs
– 6 RBs (4 TBs, 2 FBs)
– 7 WRs
– 3 TEs
– 12 OL
– 5 DTs
– 8 DEs
– 10 LBs
– 8 CBs
– 6 Ss
