In his team’s biggest game of the 2013/2014 season, Greater Atlanta Christian (Atlanta, GA) senior and University of Virginia-bound prospect Isaiah Wilkins had what he feels was his best performance of his high school basketball career. Wilkins, a 6’7”, 210-pound forward, had 29 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots as the Spartans captured the Class AA state championship last Saturday with a 58-55 win over Calhoun.

“We kind of struggled in the first half. At halftime, [GAC head coach Eddie] Martin said I had to be the inside presence. He said I had to dominate the paint,” said Wilkins, who had 11 points in the first half, giving the Spartans a 28-25 halftime advantage. “In the third and fourth quarters, I was just feeling it. And my teammates did a great job of finding me.”

Led by Wilkins, who earned Class AA Player of the Year honors as a junior, GAC has enjoyed a fantastic run the past two seasons. During that span the Spartans won 61 games and lost only three, capturing back-to-back state championships in the process.

“It has been great,” Wilkins said of the past two seasons. “We have a great coaching staff and great teammates. We didn’t really lose any players from last year. This year was just another great experience with my brothers.”
