6’8”, 230-pound power forward Luke Maye has done well for himself on the recruiting trail. Charlotte, Clemson, College of Charleston, Davidson, Notre Dame and St. Joseph’s have extended scholarship offers to the Hough High School (Cornelius, N.C.) rising senior, who is also receiving interest from UVa, Auburn, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Maye plans to sign a letter of intent with his school of choice in the Early Signing Period, which takes place this coming November. He has taken unofficial visits to Charlotte, Clemson, Virginia Tech (Maye was offered by former VT head coach James Johnson but is not being recruited at this point by Buzz Williams) and Wake Forest (no offer).
This summer, “I’m also going to try and visit Notre Dame,” Maye said. “I haven’t really decided when. I might go to St. Joe’s and maybe Wake Forest again.”
I caught up with Maye during the Nike EYBL stop in Hampton (VA) last month, and at the time he said he planned to visit UVa. He has not yet made the trek to Charlottesville, but he says he still plans to do so. He could be in Charlottesville for the 2014 NBPA Top 100 Camp, which is held annually at the John Paul Jones Arena and runs from June 17-21, but he is not sure if he will attend. If Maye does attend the camp, he could not meet with the Virginia coaches while the camp is in session. He could, however, visit UVa before or after the camp.
