Hough (N.C.) rising senior Luke Maye arrived in Charlottesville on Monday, one day before he was scheduled to check in at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, in order to unofficially visit the University of Virginia. The 6’8”, 230-pound power forward reflected on Monday’s experience, which included conversations with UVa head coach Tony Bennett and assistant Ritchie McKay, who is Maye’s primary recruiter.
“They were really nice,” Maye said of McKay and Bennett. “They just said they were gonna see me some in July and said they really want me up here. It’s a cool place.”
Of Bennett, Maye added: “I talked to him the phone a couple times, but it’s the first time I got the chance to talk to him in person. Really cool guy. Down to earth, and he really just told me the things I wanted to hear from a coach.”
Maye called UVa “a good school. Good academics as well. I pride myself in being a good student. I also want to go to a school with great basketball history and they got a lot of it here, which is really cool.”
