McDonald Announces For UVa

Virginia is the pick for Woodrow Wilson (Washington, D.C.) rising senior linebacker prospect Kareem McDonald, who announced his decision at his high school this afternoon. The 6’3”, 220-pound prospect chose UVa over Toledo.

McDonald, the 16th rising high school senior to commit to Virginia, committed to Old Dominion earlier this year but decided to reopen his recruitment.

“Blessed To Say I Am Committed To The University Of Virginia #WahooNation #ACC #UVa #GoHoos” – McDonald tweeted.

Virginia is recruiting McDonald as a linebacker. He played off the edge his junior season, seeing action at defensive end and outside linebacker and finishing with 30 tackles and eight sacks. McDonald, who sat out one month in 2013 due to a kidney illness but returned to finish the season (he says he is now fully healthy), earned an offer from the Cavaliers following a solid performance at Virginia’s one-day camp on July 23.

McDonald describes himself as one of the leaders of Wilson’s defense.

“I get my defense hyped. Just being an anchor. If something messes up, I’ll be there to correct it, to try and help out my coach a little bit,” McDonald said in an interview with TheSabre in April of 2014.

UVa now boasts two sure-fire linebacker commitments in this class, including McDonald and Ohio standout C.J. Stalker. There is a good chance that a third – Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) middle linebacker Jahvoni Simmons – will come on board later today. Simmons will announce his college choice during a 5 pm this evening press conference at his school.
