Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.) power forward Jarred Reuter has accepted UVa’s only available scholarship in the 2015 class, allowing Tony Bennett and company to turn their full attention to the class of 2016, which will be an important one for the Hoos.

Virginia men’s basketball will lose an important group of players – Justin Anderson (G/F), Malcolm Brogdon (G), Anthony Gill (PF), Evan Nolte (F) and Mike Tobey (C) — following the 2015/2016 season. As of now, the projected number of scholarship players for the 2016/2017 season is eight. In Division 1 men’s basketball, 13 players are allowed to be on scholarship in a given season, meaning that Virginia currently has five scholarship spots available for the class of 2016.

Attrition has become commonplace in Division 1 men’s basketball. Virginia fans know it well, as seven players have transferred out of the program during the Tony Bennett era. Point being, in light of college basketball’s recent trend, it certainly wouldn’t be a shock to see more attrition occur in the next year or two, creating more spots in the 2016 class. If there isn’t any attrition, though, Virginia could still choose not use all five scholarships in 2016 in order to spread out the scholarship count a bit (and in case the Hoos wanted to leave more than one spot open in 2017).
