UVa has received its first verbal commitment in the class of 2016.
Ty Jerome, a 6’3” combo guard out of Iona Prep (New Rochelle, N.Y.), pledged to the Cavaliers over offers from George Washington, St. Joseph’s and Temple, among others.
My lifelong dream is to play college basketball at the highest level- My family and I are proud to announce my commitment to UVA!! #Wahoo

Jerome was in Charlottesville this past Saturday on an unofficial visit. It was his first ever experience on Grounds.
“I spent a good amount of time with Coach Bennett and the rest of the staff and I really trust them. They are an amazing staff. I also got to meet the guys briefly and went to a class with Justin Anderson. They seemed like a family and it was great to be around,” Jerome said in in this EDGE update posted yesterday.
“I did everything almost. I saw all of the facilities, spoke to all of the coaches, watched some film with [Tony Bennett], met with Coach Curtis, who seems like he is amazing at what he does.”
Jerome listed UVa as his top school following the trip, adding that Bennett was “ready for my commitment.”
The class of 2016 is an important one for the Virginia program, which is expecting the departures of Justin Anderson, Malcolm Brogdon, Anthony Gill, Evan Nolte and Mike Tobey following the 2015/2016 season. Jerome’s commitment means that UVa now has four scholarship spots left available in the class.
Stay tuned to TheSabre for more on Jerome’s decision. Below is a short video clip of the New York native posted in December of 2013. We hope to get more video up of UVa’s newest commit soon.
