Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) head varsity football coach Chris Scott has confirmed to TheSabre.com that TJ Griffin, a 5’9″, 185-pound senior, has verbally committed to the University of Virginia. Griffin, who originally committed to Wisconsin but backed off the pledge following the Badgers’ coaching change, is expected to sign an official letter of intent with UVa tomorrow, which is National Signing Day for the class of 2015.
A running back and cornerback for the 2014 6A state champion Dolphins, Griffin is being recruited by head coach Mike London to play cornerback. The versatile prospect was a first-team all-Tidewater selection at defensive back this past season, when he amassed 49 tackles and had two interceptions. He also rushed for 665 yards.
Griffin becomes the second Ocean Lakes prospect to commit to Virginia in this class, joining 4-star middle linebacker Jahvoni Simmons. Simmons was also a 2014 first-team all-Tidewater selection.
UVa now has 22 class of 2015 recruits.
