UVa-bound junior combo guard Ty Jerome poured in 33 points as Iona Prep (New Rochelle, N.Y.) defeated St. Raymond’s, 72-59, in the CHSAA AA Archdiocesan Tournament championship game this Saturday. The two schools split the regular season series, with each winning on the other’s home court.

The 6’4″ Jerome missed the CHSAA AA Tournament semifinal win over St. Peter’s because of a hip flexor, and he was questionable heading into the championship. He would score 23 points in the first half before finishing with 33 in total, adding eight rebounds and three assists as well in the title contest.

Iona Prep (21-5) is the no. 1 seed in the upcoming CHSAA Intersectional playoffs, which begin on March 8.

VES Falls Short Of State Title

Virginia Episcopal School (Lynchburg, VA) defeated Blue Ridge School (St. George, VA) when the teams first met this season. Unfortunately for the Bishops, they could not recreate the success in either of the next two matchups against the Barons, including the VISAA Division II state championship. Blue Ridge defeated VES, 65-54, at Virginia State University on Saturday to capture the state title.

6’10” junior forward Sacha Killeya-Jones, a Virginia commitment, scored 23 points, pulled down nine boards and had three blocked shots for VES in the loss.

A slow start put VES down 41-17 at the half. Though the Bishops made a run, the first half deficit proved to be too much to overcome. For a full game story, click here.
