Bishop O’Connell (Arlington, VA) linebacker Landan Word announced today that he has verbally committed to the University of Virginia.
Very blessed to say that I have officially committed to the University of Virginia. Thank you to everyone that helped get me where I am.

Word, son of former UVa running back great Barry Word, chose the Hoos over offers from Boston College, Connecticut and Pittsburgh, among others. The 6’3″, 225-pound junior is rated a 3-star prospect by 247Sports. He earned VISAA Division 1 second-team all-state honors as an athlete.
UVa now has four commitments in the class of 2016. In addition to Word, quarterback Sonny Abramson and wide receivers Cole Blackman and Joseph Reed have pledged to the Cavaliers.
See Word’s junior season highlights below. I’ll have a full report on his commitment up soon.
