Tracking The Evaluation Period: July 16 Notes

KYLE GUY HAVING AN EXCELLENT WEEK IN NEW YORK

Virginia combo guard commit Kyle Guy has enjoyed an excellent spring and summer. He has taken his play to another level the past few days at the Adidas Uprising All-American Camp in New York.

The Lawrence Central (Indianapolis, IN) rising senior drained 9 of 16 3s in those three games (all at Long Island Post University’s Pratt Rec. Center), good for 58.3-percent from beyond the arc. UVa head coach Tony Bennett was among the coaches in attendance on Thursday, so he was able to see some of Guy’s performance first hand.

Last night, the Adidas All-Americans headed to famed Rucker Park. Guy scored 14 points, including this highlight worthy dunk, and had three assists for Team Grey, which defeated Team Black 103-97. Cavalier power forward target Edrice Adebayo had 27 points and 8 rebounds for Team Black, which also featured another Cavalier frontcourt target in Mamadi Diakite, who had 4 points, 2 rebounds and 1 block.

JEROME HELPS USA EAST TO WIN

While one of UVa’s 4-star class of 2016 backcourt commits was tearing it up in New York, the other — Iona Prep (New Rochelle, N.Y.) product Ty Jerome — was in Chicago, Illinois, playing for USA East against China in the Nike Global Challenge.

Jerome was whistled for three fouls in the first several minutes of action in Thursday afternoon’s contest, forcing him to sit the bench for most of the first half. The 6’4″ guard played most of the second half, helping USA East turn a 4-point halftime lead into a 16-point win. Jerome finished with 10 points (4-5 from the field including 1-1 from 3), 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 turnover in 19 minutes of action.

Top Virginia class of 2017 point guard target Matt Coleman is playing alongside Jerome on USA East. The Norfolk (VA) native, who will attend Oak Hill Academy this coming year, had 14 points (7-8 shooting), 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals against China.

USA East faces Pan Africa today at 1 p.m. EST and meets USA South tonight at 9 p.m. EST. The games are streamed live here.
