UVa Commit Jay Huff On The Mend After Early Summer Injury

One of Jay Huff’s top priorities this offseason was to work on his physical development. Unfortunately for the Voyager Academy (Durham, N.C.) rising senior and University of Virginia men’s basketball commitment, offseason plans were dealt a blow when he suffered a broken bone in his right hand while at a team camp at the University of South Carolina in June.

“He spent several days in a splint and six weeks in a cast. Certainly, that put a damper on what we were trying to accomplish,” said Voyager Academy head coach Mike Huff, who is Jay’s father. “He has been able to do lower body stuff. It hasn’t been the offseason we wanted, but he is still working hard. One of the benefits of breaking his right hand is he was able to work with his left hand. Right after he got his cast off, we went to camp at Washington State and he made some 3s with his left hand. Basically, he was playing with his left hand and he impressed a lot.”

This fall, Jay hopes to get back on track in terms of building strength and size.

“Early mornings at school, Jay will do weight training. That stuff will come as the year goes on. Certainly, this summer was a setback,” Mike Huff said.
