UVa Elite Camp: Notes & Observations

The University of Virginia men’s basketball program held its annual Elite Camp on Saturday, August 22. Before getting to my observations regarding some of the players who were in John Paul Jones Arena, here are some notes from the event…

– The entire Virginia staff, including newcomers Brad Soderberg (Assistant Coach) and Orlando Vandross (Director of Recruiting/Player Development), was on hand to run the event. Devon Hall, Austin Nichols, Isaiah Wilkins, Justice Bartley and Jeff Jones were the players on hand to help. Mike Tobey, Jack Salt and Jarred Reuter stopped by the camp later on in the day, though they were just hanging out.

It has been discussed before but it is worth saying again… Mike Curtis has done a great job with the players. Wilkins is noticeably bigger. Hall looks good. Tobey looks great. Salt looks big and strong, and Reuter’s development has been outstanding as the true freshman has dropped 20-plus pounds in just a few months. He is lean and toned and looks strong. From a physical standpoint, I’d say he certainly looks ready to contribute as a true freshman.

– Former Cavalier guard Cory Alexander was in attendance as was Boo Williams, who of course runs the Boo Williams AAU program.
