Sabre TV: Alexis Shaffer On UVa’s Win Over FSU

No. 2 Virginia took a 1-0 victory over No. 1 Florida State in women’s soccer action Sunday.

Alexis Shaffer scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick, her second PK conversion of the season, in the 30th minute. The Seminoles were called for a handball in the box on a shot that was deflected by a Seminole defender. UVa posted 19 shots to FSU’s 5.

“I think we were clearly the better team, obviously, at the start,” Virginia coach Steve Swanson said in a VirginiaSports.com news release. “The turning point, obviously, was the red card. We would have liked to have seen a couple more go in, but it certainly wasn’t because we weren’t trying. We had opportunities. You have to give their goalie credit. We just didn’t finish enough of our chances to make it a case where it was a definitive win.”

Austin Courtney caught up with Shaffer for Sabre TV.
