DT Tommy Christ Taking His Talents To Charlottesville

The University of Virginia football program is back on the board in terms of class of 2017 commitments. Earlier this evening, new Cavalier head coach Bronco Mendenhall received a pledge from two-way lineman Tommy Christ, a 6’5″, 255-pound junior out of Dominion High School in Sterling, Virginia. The in-state standout took to Twitter to announce his decision.

Christ, who visited Virginia in February for a Junior Day recruiting event, chose UVA over offers from Cincinnati, East Carolina, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Wake Forest and West Virginia, among others. He also received interest from schools such as Virginia Tech, where his older brother, Matt, is a rising red-shirt freshman walk-on offensive lineman.

Christ earned first-team all-Conference 21B honors at offensive line and defensive end his junior season. The 247Sports and Scout.com 3-star prospect is being recruited by Mendenhall as a defensive tackle.

Christ is currently the only commitment UVA has in the class of 2017. The Hoos previously had a commitment from Woodberry Forest (VA) tight end John Kirven, who announced last month that he was reopening his recruitment.
