Hoos Continue To Emphasize Lines With Latest Offers

The University of Virginia football program has offered a pair of rising senior defensive linemen this week. They are: 6’4″, 250-pound Aliki Vimahi and 6’5″, 240-pound Jacob Lichtenstein.

Vimahi, a product of Kahuku High School in Hawaii, tweeted the news of his offer on Tuesday.

Virginia joins BYU, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Hawaii, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah and Washington State in having offered the promising lineman, who ran an electronically-timed 5.03-second 40 and 4.65-second shuttle at The Opening in Oakland on May 22. He also posted a 39-foot kneeling power ball throw and 31-inch vertical leap.

Vimahi was offered by Virginia on Tuesday of this week, while Lichtenstein reported his UVA offer yesterday. On May 13, Scout.com reported that Lichtenstein narrowed his list to five — California, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Nebraska and Pittsburgh. Since that report, though, the Cypress Bay (Weston, FL) star has added offers from Alabama, Colorado, Maryland, NC State, Southern Cal, South Florida, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Junior season highlights of Lichtenstein are below.

The defensive and offensive lines are a major focus of new head coach Bronco Mendenhall and his staff in class of 2017 recruiting. Two prospects — defensive lineman Tommy Christ and center Tyler Fannin — have committed to the Cavaliers so far. Additionally, the Cavaliers have landed UNC transfer Jared Cohen, an offensive lineman, and Arizona State transfer Jack Powers, who will play defensive end for the Hoos. UVA lost a lineman, however, when Grant Polk decided to transfer. A 3-star offensive tackle recruit, Polk enrolled on Grounds in January of 2015 before red-shirting this past season.
