Sterling (Dominion, VA) prospect Tommy Christ earned first-team all-Conference 21B honors on the offensive line and at defensive end last season as a junior. His 6’5”, 255-pound frame projects well to either side of the line on the major college level; however, his passion is on defense, which is where he’ll begin his career at the University of Virginia.
“I love anywhere on the D-line. I’ve always been a big defensive lineman guy. It was sort of hard going through the process when a lot of schools were recruiting me as an offensive tackle. I’m very pumped just to be able to play on the D-line on the next level,” said Christ, one of six commitments Virginia has received so far in the class of 2017.
“[The UVA coaches] told me about a 4-technique defensive tackle, so like a 3-man front and probably walk up a Backer,” Christ said, specifying which position Bronco Mendenhall envisions him playing. He played a standup defensive end position for Dominion this past season.
Mendenhall noted on National Signing Day that the defensive and offensive lines would be a major focus in class of 2017 recruiting. Christ, who is the only D-line commitment so far in the class, pledged to Virginia’s first year head coach on April 2.
