Penn (New Castle, DE) defensive back prospect Zachariah Burton has verbally committed to the University of Virginia, giving the Hoos seven pledges — three of whom are likely to play in the defensive backfield — in its class of 2017. The 6’0″, 185-pound rising senior announced his decision via Twitter this afternoon.

Burton spurned offers from Army, Connecticut, Temple and Yale, among others, in favor of the Cavaliers. He joins quarterback Lindell Stone, all-purpose running back Lamont Atkins, offensive lineman Tyler Fannin, defensive tackle Tommy Christ, safety Joey Blount and defensive back Germane Crowell as members of Virginia’s 2017 Class.
A multisport athlete, Burton has played baseball and run track in addition to playing football in high school. Stay tuned for much more on Virginia’s newest commitment from TheSabre.com.
