DC Athlete Charles Snowden Announces Commitment To Virginia

The University of Virginia football program defeated Duke this past Saturday, snapping a 17-game road losing streak and improving to 2-3 on the season. A successful weekend continued late last night, when St. Albans (Washington, D.C.) senior Charles Snowden made an announcement on Twitter.

“First I’d like to thank both my family for supporting me from day one in everything that I did. I’d like to thank every coach that has recruited me for both basketball and football throughout the process. I’d like to thank both Blake High School and St. Albans for teaching me lessons on and off the field and court. After much thought and discussion with my family, I am fully committed to Coach Mendenhall, Coach [Poppinga], the rest of the staff and the University of Virginia!” – wrote Snowden, whose full tweet you can see by clicking here.

Snowden was the second high school senior prospect to verbally commit to the Hoos last week, joining California offensive tackle Ryan Nelson. Virginia now boasts 20 commitments in total in the class of 2017.

Unlike Nelson, who projects as an offensive tackle, the 6’7″, 200-pound Snowden seems likely to play defense at UVA. An intriguing prospect, his size and athleticism would translate well to outside linebacker or possibly defensive end depending on his physical development. He also plays wide receiver at St. Albans.

Snowden claimed an offer from the Cavaliers on September 20 of this year. UVA was his first football scholarship offer, while St. Francis offered a basketball scholarship.
