Hints have been given and rumors have circulated. Finally, Jamari Peacock has announced his commitment to the University of Virginia football program. Peacock, a senior running back out of Yulee High School in Florida, revealed the news via Twitter.

Cavalier offensive coordinator Robert Anae’s offense features a Speed Back (Taquan Mizzell plays this position) and a Big Back (Albert Reid is positioned here). At 6’0″, 240 pounds, Peacock gives the Cavaliers a Big Back prospect to go along with Speed Back commits Lamont Atkins and PK Kier. Like Atkins, Peacock plans on enrolling at UVA in January of 2017.

Peacock made his way to Charlottesville the weekend of the Pittsburgh game for an official visit. While in Charlottesville he snapped a few photos alongside Virginia commits — click here to see one taken by Cavalier commit Mandy Alonso — that suggested he may be a pledge as well.

Following tonight’s announcement, fellow future Hoo Germane Crowell Jr. tweeted, “He been [committed] y’all. family tho.”

Peacock’s 1,669 yards rushing and 29 touchdowns (per the Florida Times-Union) this season have propelled Yulee to the state playoffs for the first time since 2012. The consensus 3-star prospect (247Sports, Rivals, Scout, and ESPN) rushed for 1,243 yards and 16 scores last year as a junior.

Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, Nebraska, and Stanford are among the other schools that reportedly offered the promising running back, who becomes commitment no. 21 for the Wahoos in the class of 2017. Peacock, Atkins, Crowell, and defensive back Zachariah Burton plan to enroll on Grounds in January of 2017.
