UVA Football Recruiting Week In Review: Four Commits Advance In Playoffs

University of Virginia football commitments Tyler Fannin, Matt Gahm, Tommy Christ, and Brian Delaney helped their respective schools to playoff victories last week.

Mill Creek (Hoschton, GA), which features Fannin as its starting center, edged McEachern, 31-28, to advance to the 7A semifinals and a matchup with Grayson. Mill Creek is unbeaten so far this season.

Linebacker Matt Gahm and his Highland Park (Dallas, TX) teammates downed Lake Ridge, 41-27, in the 5A Division 1 Region 2 semifinals. Per Max Preps, Gahm totaled 11 tackles (8 solo) including two sacks, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble in the 14-point win.

The Scots will battle Mansfield Legacy for the regional championship on Saturday in AT&T Stadium.

UVA defensive end commitment Tommy Christ told the Washington Post that he was in “complete shock” following Dominion’s (Sterling, VA) 30-23 upset win over previously unbeaten Woodgrove in the 4A West regional semifinals. The Titans, who rallied from 14 points down in last week’s win, will now take on Salem in the 4A West regional finals with a berth in the 4A state championship game on the line.

Delaney, a place-kicker/punter prospect committed to the Hoos, booted four extra points and a 27-yard field goal as Westfield (Chantilly, VA) defeated James Madison, 31-13. The Bulldogs next take on South Lakes in the 6A North Region championship. South Lakes ousted UVA-bound tailback Lamont Atkins-led Lake Braddock in the 6A North regional semifinals last week.
