Before Ryan Swoboda began getting recruited by major FBS schools, he and his parents discussed potential locations for where he wanted to attend college.

Swoboda, who lives in Windermere (FL) and attends Windermere Prep, grew up in Oregon before moving to the Sunshine State. He prefers colder weather. His father wanted him to consider schools in Oregon while his mother wanted him to stay closer to their Florida home. As a compromise, the family eyed schools up north but on the East coast, in states such as Virginia and North Carolina.

So when the University of Virginia football coaches began recruiting the 6’10”, 265-pound offensive tackle prospect, location was already a plus for the Cavaliers. When Swoboda researched UVA, its first year head football coach Bronco Mendenhall, and the Cavaliers’ strength and conditioning program, his interest grew even more.

The final piece, Swoboda said, was exploring the school in person. He did that this past weekend on an official visit, and before the weekend was over the Windermere Prep senior had no doubts as to where he wanted to spend his college future.
