The Taft School produced one of the top defensive ends in UVA history in former NFL standout Patrick Kerney. Coach Bronco Mendenhall hopes to have found another defensive gem from the Watertown (CT) school.
This afternoon UVA football received a verbal commitment from Taft School senior Elliott Brown, Taft School head coach Tyler Whitley confirmed to TheSabre.com. Brown was a productive wide receiver for Taft but is being recruited by the Cavaliers as an outside linebacker.
“[Brown] just texted me. He is committed,” Whitley wrote via Twitter.
Whitley describes the 6’6″, 220-pound Brown as “an under the radar guy with unbelievable athleticism and potential.”
Brown, who was offered a scholarship by UVA last week, is currently in Charlottesville on an official visit. Accompanying him on Grounds is Taft School senior offensive lineman Gerrick Vollmer, a one-time Louisville pledge who is considering scholarship offers from Connecticut and Temple.
