Bennett Visits Top 2018 Point Guard Elijah Weaver

Oldsmar Christian School (Oldsmar, FL) had Spring Break March 20-24, leaving only three school days this week for Division 1 men’s basketball coaches to visit before a one-week Dead Period begins March 30. UVA’s Tony Bennett used that window of opportunity, visiting the school to see class of 2018 point guard Elijah Weaver on March 28.

Weaver has had a scholarship offer from Virginia for quite some time and has previously spoken with Bennett on the phone, but this was the first face-to-face interaction between the two. Oldsmar Christian head coach John Bianchi, who guided the Eagles to their first ever Sunshine Independent Athletic Association championship earlier this month, was impressed with the Cavalier head coach and says Weaver was as well.

“It was the first time I’ve met him,” Bianchi said of Bennett. “His belief in God was the highlight of the day because we both share that and we’re a Christian school. I really connected with him on that alone.”

Of Bennett’s meeting with Weaver, Bianchi said: “It went really good. [Coach Bennett] made it really enjoyable for him and showed us how much he cares. I would say it was all positive.”
