UVA Football Recruiting Notes: Recent Visitor News, New Offer

Catching you up on recent UVA football recruiting news, beginning with am offensive line target at a traditional high school power in the Tidewater region.

Collins High on the Hoos

This happened five days, but it is a tweet worth recognizing. Oscar Smith class of 2018 offensive lineman James Collins had the following to say about UVA on April 7 …

For a program still in dire need of offensive linemen, this is good news. Might a commitment happen soon? It wouldn’t be a surprise, and certainly UVA is in great shape.

Virginia is currently the only school to offer the 6’4”, 305-pound junior, who attended a Cavalier Junior Day earlier this year.

Targets Make Return Visits

As reported on the EDGE this week, Patrick Henry (Ashland, VA) safety/wide receiver Kaleb Smith planned to return to Virginia to watch spring practice on April 11. The 6’3”, 185-pound junior made the trip, his third visit to UVA within a 2-week span.

Smith met with defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach Nick Howell extensively during this latest experience, an indication of where the Cavaliers envision him playing should he end up donning the orange and blue.

Like Smith, Louisa County (Mineral, VA) star linebacker Brandon Smith has also been on Grounds numerous times. The 6’5”, 220-pound sophomore was on Grounds again yesterday and tweeted that the experience was a positive one.

Since Virginia offered back in February, Smith has received offers from Virginia Tech and Duke.

Smith’s Louisa County teammate, Tony Thurston, was also at UVA yesterday. The 6’5”, 270-pound junior has not been offered by the Hoos but had a “great” experience on Tuesday. He earned first-team all-conference honors as an offensive tackle and defensive end this past season.

Other recent visitors include …

Xavier Kane, QB/ATH, Blue Ridge (St. George, VA), Class of 2019, No offer from UVA

Grant Misch, LB, 6’4”, 232 pounds, Potomac Falls (Sterling, VA), Class of 2018, No offer from UVA but does have an offer from Army

Dean Ferguson, S, 6’2”, 205 pounds, Potomac Falls (Sterling, VA), Class of 2019, No offer from UVA

Another Line Offer

Pennsbury (Fairless Hills, PA) junior defensive tackle/offensive lineman Matt Rosso tweeted yesterday that Virginia has offered a scholarship. UVA is the first power conference offer for the 6’6”, 260-pound prospect. U-Mass has offered as well.
