Milford Mill (Baltimore, MD) wide receiver/cornerback prospect Ugo Obasi verbally committed to the University of Virginia last Friday, choosing the Hoos over Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Temple and Wisconsin, among others.

Why did the 6’2”, 170-pound rising senior decide on Virginia? For starters, there is UVA alum and current Cavalier wide receivers coach Marques Hagans, whom Obasi had an immediate connection with.

“I have a strong bond with Coach Hagans,” Obasi said. “He had a long speech to me. He typed a letter talking about his tattoos, what they mean and what he’s all about. He pulled me in, but in a different way from other coaches. He’s just somebody I look at and have a positive image of.”

Hagans being a former Cavalier himself “helped me a lot,” Obasi noted. “Knowing he went to UVA, that comforts me. He knows how it is. He told me it’s a great school.”
