Virginia Basketball Up To No. 15 In Coaches Poll, Enters AP Poll For First Time

Virginia men’s basketball now ranks in the Top 25 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls.

The Cavaliers went 2-0 last week, capturing the NIT Season Tip-Off title and improving to 6-0 overall. Virginia destroyed Vanderbilt, 68-42, in the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals on Thanksgiving Day before dispatching of Rhode Island by 15 in the November 24 championship game.

Prior to today’s release, Virginia had not been ranked in the AP Top 25 this season. The Hoos are now ranked no. 18. Head coach Tony Bennett’s squad improved 10 spots to No. 15 in the Coaches poll, which was also released today.

UVA has two games this week, both at John Paul Jones Arena. The first comes tonight, when the Cavaliers take on Wisconsin as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. ESPN2 will televise at 9 p.m. EST. Virginia hosts Lehigh on Saturday, December 2.
