Highland Springs WR/ATH Billy Kemp Commits To Virginia Following State Title Win

Billy Kemp finished his high school career off in style by helping Highland Springs (VA) to the 2017 5A state championship. The standout wide receiver/defensive back has kicked off his college career in style as well, revealing his verbal commitment to the University of Virginia following the Springers’ state title victory over Tuscarora Sunday afternoon (December 10).

Richmond Times-Dispatch reporter Eric Kolenich tweeted the news of Kemp’s commitment before putting out an article, which you can read by clicking here.

Kemp, who is listed as either 5’8” or 5’9” depending on where you read, played wide receiver and defensive back for the Springers. He had a terrific senior season, totaling 49 receptions for 981 yards and scoring 16 touchdowns (stats per the Times-Dispatch). Kemp had three catches for 49 yards and the game’s first score in the 40-27 state title win over Tuscarora.

Kemp added three interceptions on the year; however, he is likely to play offense in Charlottesville. He picked off one pass against Tuscarora.

Kemp’s decision boosts Virginia’s class of 2018 commitment total to 20. The Cavaliers also have a pledge from junior college quarterback Bryce Perkins, who will enroll in January of 2018, and expect to bring running back Wayne Taulapapa into the fold in the summer of 2018. Taulapapa signed with UVA in the class of 2016 before going on a two-year mission trip.
