The inaugural early signing period for Division 1 football gets underway today (Dec. 20) and lasts through December 22. This represents the first opportunity for those verbally committed players in the class of 2018 to make their pledges official and binding. Virginia football coach Bronco Mendenhall said this past weekend that he expects 15-17 commitments to sign during this early period. The regular signing period begins on Wednesday, February 7.
Below is a rundown of all of the players in UVA’s 2018 Class. Heading into today, the Wahoos boasted 22 verbal commitments, including one from junior college quarterback Bryce Perkins. We will update the status of Virginia’s recruits from “Committed” to “Signed” as the letters of intent are announced. We will also provide heights and weights as the players are announced officially. Stay tuned for coverage of the early signing period today — Mendenhall is scheduled to have a press conference at 4 p.m. today — and through the rest of the week as we analyze who signed, who didn’t sign, and what needs remain as we look toward the regular signing period.

UPDATE: Virginia finished with 18 signees on the day. Though the period runs through December 22, no other signees are expected.
