Virginia Basketball Roundup: Cavaliers Practice In Brooklyn

The Hoos are in Brooklyn! Top-ranked Virginia basketball arrived in Brooklyn, New York on March 6 and will take the Barclays Center court against either the No. 8 seed Florida State Seminoles or the No. 9 seed Louisville Cardinals on Thursday, March 8 at noon EST.

Florida State and Louisville, who play at noon today in second round ACC tourney action, met twice during the regular season with each team winning on the other’s home court. The Cardinals rallied from 13 points down at halftime in Tallahassee to get the win before the Seminoles secured a halftime lead to score a victory at the KFC Yum! Center.

No. 1 seed UVA bested both programs during the regular season, defeating the Cardinals at home and on the road and the Seminoles once in Tallahassee. This the Cavaliers’ ninth ACC tournament under head coach Tony Bennett, who has led the team to an 8-7 conference tourney record. After starting off winning only one of its first five ACC tourney games in the Bennett era, Virginia has won seven of its last 10, making the championship game twice and capturing a title in 2014.

Virginia has never met Louisville in the ACC tourney. It has faced FSU twice in the past nine years, winning both contests in 2014 and 2015.
