For the second consecutive weekend, the Virginia football program has secured a commitment in the class of 2019. This latest pledge — Blacksburg High School (VA) wide receiver Tiquest Terry — becomes the Cavaliers’ first in-state commitment in the class.
The 5’9”, 165-pound Terry verbally committed to head coach Bronco Mendenhall while on Grounds on an unofficial visit today (April 14). He announced his decision over Twitter.
“First off, I would like to thank god, my family, my coaches, and everyone who has aided me when I have needed it most,” Terry wrote in the tweet below. “I appreciate it very much, also I am very thankful that I have been blessed with god given talents and division 1 offers, but today I followed through with my heart deciding to choose the university of Virginia. They have everything I need and more for me to become a good football player but an even better man! #hoosrising #newstandards”

Over the last two seasons, Terry has played a key role on a successful Bruins varsity football program. As a sophomore he reeled in 70 catches for 1,165 yards and 11 receiving touchdowns. Twenty-one of those catches and 394 of those yards came during Blacksburg’s 2016 Class 3A state championship run (stats per the Roanoke Times).
Terry had 36 receptions for 592 yards and 15 touchdowns (rushing, receiving, and on kick returns) last season as a junior as the Bruins finished 11-2 (stats per the Roanoke Times).
Virginia was the first school to offer a scholarship to the dynamic athlete, coming through in August of 2017. Wake Forest, East Carolina, Temple and Youngstown State offered as well.
Virginia now boasts five commitments in the class of 2019. Three, including last week’s pledge Antonio Clary, are from the state of Florida. Check out the full rundown of Virginia’s class below Terry’s highlights.
