An already impressive recruiting day continued Friday (June 22) night, when the University of Virginia received a verbal commitment from Gulliver Prep (Miami, FL) outside linebacker/defensive end prospect DSean Perry.

Perry, a 6’3”, 215-pound rising senior, becomes the fifth prospect to join UVA’s 2019 Class on this day. Earlier Friday, the Cavaliers added two 4-star recruits in defensive tackle Jowon Briggs and outside linebacker Hunter Stewart as well as two international players in offensive lineman Kariem Al Soufi and quarterback/athlete Luke Wentz.
Virginia football has secured eight rising senior commits this week. The Hoos now have 16 commitments in total in this class.
If Gulliver Prep sounds familiar to Virginia fans, it’s for good reason. For starters, the head coach is former Cavalier linebacker Earl Sims, who played under George Welsh. But Virginia has also had prior recruiting success at the Miami school, most recently with rising second-year defensive lineman Mandy Alonso.
Coach Sims describes Perry as “explosive, aggressive and smart” with a “high motor.”
Perry, an All-Dade second team selection as a junior, picked Virginia over offers from Duke, Florida, Louisville, North Carolina, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest. Florida State was among the schools expressing serious interest prior to today’s decision.
Perry arrived in Charlottesville Friday to begin an official visit. His father, Sean, announced his son’s pledge via Facebook. D’Sean later tweeted the above announcement.
