Virginia Football Recruiting Notes: August Offers

Recruiting is an ongoing venture that continues throughout the calendar year, even in August, when every FBS program is preparing for the start of the season. Virginia is no exception, and head coach Bronco Mendenhall has extended scholarship offers to high school seniors, juniors and sophomores this month.

CLASS OF 2019

Eighteen high school seniors have verbally committed to Virginia, but the Hoos aren’t finished with this class yet. UVA has extended some new offers in the class this month.

Michel Dukes, RB, 5’10”, 190 pounds, First Baptist (Charleston, S.C.)

Dukes claims the Virginia offer, which he announced on August 22, is his 14th college scholarship offer in total. Others include Arkansas, East Carolina, Indiana, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Temple, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Dukes, who rushed for 2,282 yards last season as a junior, called Oregon a “dream offer.”

Parker Moorer, OL/DL, 6’5”, 275 pounds, Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.)

A former Maryland commit, Moorer decommitted from the Terps on August 11. Within days of Moorer reopening his recruitment, Virginia and Indiana had swooped in with scholarship offers, joining earlier offers from Toledo, Central Florida, Rutgers, East Carolina, Temple, Syracuse, Colorado State and more.

How hard the staff pursues Moorer and other class of 2019 offensive lineman may depend on what happens this Saturday, September 1, which is when Pennsylvania class of 2019 standout JaQuay Hubbard plans to announce his college decision. The talented big man is expected to choose either Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse or Virginia.

Joacheim Price, OL, 6’8”, 315 pounds, Harry Jacobs (Algonquin, IL)

Price, who was offered by the Cavaliers on August 21, made official visits to Illinois and Minnesota in June. He has also visited Purdue. All three Big 10 programs have offered the mammoth prospect, who is also considering scholarships from Duke, Iowa State, Syracuse and West Virginia.

– T.J. Jones, WR, 6’1”, 185 pounds, Columbia (Lake City, FL)

UVA has quite a bit of competition for this Sunshine State star, who claims 36 scholarship offers in total. In addition to the Cavaliers, Jones is also considering offers from Arkansas, Cincinnati, Florida, Miami, Nebraska, Oregon, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, South Florida and Texas A&M, among others.

Rashee Rice, WR, 6’2”, 180 pounds, Richland (North Richland Hills, TX)

Virginia offered the productive wide receiver on August 16, 10 days after he committed to SMU. The question now is whether or not the Cavaliers can convince him to make a visit.

Rice had an outstanding junior campaign, hauling in 72 receptions for 1,386 yards and 19 touchdowns.

CLASS OF 2020

Elijah Green, RB, 5’11”, 180 pounds, Blessed Trinity (Roswell, GA)

Iowa State, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia have offered the Peach State standout.

E.J. Williams, WR, 6’3”, 180 pounds, Central (Phenix City, AL)

Williams has claimed some big-time offers this summer, including Clemson, Georgia and LSU.

Jecoryian Davis-Hamilton, ATH, 6’2”, 170 pounds, Apopka (FL)

In addition to the Virginia offer received on August 14, Davis-Hamilton also boasts offers from Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State and Syracuse, among others.

Omari Thomas, DL, 6’5”, 280 pounds, Briarcrest Christian (Eads, TN)

Virginia has a lot of competition for this 4-star prospect, who claims offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Ohio State, Tennessee and many others.
