Virginia Basketball Extends Scholarship Offer To Guard Carson McCorkle

Greensboro Day (Greensboro, N.C.) guard Carson McCorkle announced Monday (September 10) that he has received a scholarship offer from the University of Virginia.

Head coach Tony Bennett stopped by Greensboro Day this past Sunday (September 9) to further evaluate the 6’3” sophomore, who had taken an unofficial visit to UVA on August 24. McCorkle now boasts 10 scholarship offers in total, with Virginia joining NC State, Baylor, Wake Forest, Florida, Clemson, Wichita State, South Carolina, Georgia Tech and Iowa.

McCorkle, a native of Raleigh (N.C.), attended Broughton High School (Raleigh) as a freshman in 2016-17. He transferred to Greensboro Day in 2017, reclassifying from the class of 2020 to the class of 2021. As a freshman at Greensboro Day, the sharp-shooting McCorkle averaged 10.7 points per game for head coach Freddy Johnson’s team, which captured the 2018 North Carolina 3A championship.

This spring and summer McCorkle played for Garner Road 2020 West on the Adidas Grassroots 16U circuit. The team went 7-1 and had a final four finish in the Adidas Summer Championships, and was runner-up at the Fab 48 in Las Vegas. He has also earned a spot on the 2018 United States Youth Olympic Games Men’s Basketball Team, which will compete at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, October 6-18.
