Maury (Norfolk, VA) senior Chase Coleman has accepted a preferred walk-on spot with the University of Virginia men’s basketball program. The 5’9” point guard, younger brother of former UVA target and current University of Texas rising junior point guard Matt Coleman, announced his decision via Twitter.

Coleman ended his high school career on a great note, helping the Commodores to a Class 5 state championship and a 25-3 record in 2018-19. He poured in 18 points (9-of-12 from the free throw line) in a 74-61 victory over Varina in the state semifinals (highlights below) and contributed 5 points, 4 assists, 4 steals and 3 rebounds versus Freedom in the title game. Per Jami Frankenberry of the Daily Press and The Virginian-Pilot, Coleman averaged 9.2 points, 6 assists and 2 steals on his way to earning Class 5 second-team all-region A and second-team all-Eastern district honors as a senior.

An honorable mention all-Tidewater and first-team all-region selection in 2017-18, Coleman averaged 8 points, 7 assists and 2 steals per game his junior season.
