Former Virginia Star Kyle Guy Set To Play For Sacramento In California Classic

Former University of Virginia star guard Kyle Guy will make his professional debut Monday (July 1) night, when the Sacramento Kings take on the Golden State Warriors as part of the California Classic, a 3-day summer basketball showcase event.

Guy, who earned 2019 Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors while helping UVA to its first ever NCAA men’s basketball championship, will don jersey no. 7 for the Kings, who drafted him with the 55th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. The Kings and Warriors face off at 11 p.m. EST. Sacramento then hosts the Miami Heat on Tuesday, July 2, at 11 p.m. EST before concluding the event on Wednesday, July 3, with a 5 p.m. EST matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers. Per the California Classic’s official web page, “Players from the four teams will include rookies selected in the 2019 NBA Draft, sophomore NBA players, and athletes competing to make NBA and G League rosters.”

While the California Classic and Salt Lake City Summer League events take place July 1-3, the scene shifts to Las Vegas on July 5 for the start of the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League.

Salt, Hunter and Jerome To Play In Las Vegas

In addition to Guy, three other members of Virginia’s 2018-19 championship team are expected to play in the 2019 NBA Summer League. They are De’Andre Hunter, Ty Jerome and Jack Salt. However, 2019 NBA Draft first-round picks Hunter and Jerome will have to wait at least until Saturday, July 6 before they can participate because they are part of trade deals that can only be officially completed beginning on the first day of the new league year, which happens to be July 6. It appears those trades will be made official on Saturday, meaning we could see Hunter (Atlanta Hawks) and Jerome (Phoenix Suns) suit up for their respective teams on that day.
