Virginia Football Makes Pedersen’s Top Three, Misses On Grimes

Junipero Serra (San Mateo, CA) tight end prospect Christian Pedersen boasts double-digit scholarship offers, all of which have come this year. This past Saturday, the 6’5”, 235-pound rising senior announced his three favorites, and the University of Virginia is on the list.

ACC-rival Louisville and San Diego State round out Pedersen’s top three. The Aztecs were the first program to offer, coming through on on March 11. UVA and Louisville offered the promising prospect in April.

Pedersen, whose ties to UVA include having family in Virginia and being former teammates with Cavalier class of 2020 signee Nusi Malani, is rated by 247Sports as a 3-star prospect and the no. 34 tight end in the nation in his class. Tight end is a top remaining position of need for UVA in its 2021 Class, which has 14 commitments following last Friday’s pledge from offensive lineman Ty Furnish.

Grant Misch and Josh Rawlings are the only scholarship tight ends projected on UVA’s 2021 roster. Robert Anae mentioned walk-on Mike Kozar as a non-scholarship player making a push for playing time, so the position could get bolstered from current players on the team, but UVA has been active in recruiting tight ends and appears intent on taking at least one in this class.

Grimes Narrows Field To Four

Princess Anne (Virginia Beach, VA) rising senior cornerback prospect Tony Grimes, one of the top overall prospects in the nation in the class of 2021, announced his top four on Sunday. UVA, which made the 5-star prospect’s top eight, did not make this list. Instead, Grimes will choose Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio State and Texas A&M. I’m guessing Grimes ends up with either UGA or Ohio State in the end.
