Jonas Sanker Happy To Be Staying Home At Virginia

Jonas Sanker verbally committed to Boston College on June 9. Just over two weeks later, a “little surprise” would change the 6’2”, 195-pound rising senior’s thinking.

“I think it was a little surprise,” Sanker said, referring to the scholarship offer he received from the University of Virginia roughly two weeks following his pledge to the Eagles. “For me, I couldn’t ignore the fact that being home and being close to my family is really important to me. Both spots are great schools.”

Sanker, who stars at quarterback and safety at The Covenant School (Charlottesville, VA), announced on Sunday (July 12) that he was decommitting from Boston College in favor of the hometown school. He informed Cavalier head coach Bronco Mendenhall of his decision before posting the announcement on Twitter.

Born in Charlottesville, Sanker moved with his family to Washington (D.C.) at the age of two before heading out to Colorado, where he lived for five years before returning to Charlottesville at the age of 8. His father, George, is Headmaster at The Covenant School.
