Virginia Football Recruiting Week In Review: Micah Gaffney Helps Spanish Fort To Sixth Straight Win

University of Virginia football cornerback commitment Micah Gaffney headlines the latest “Week In Review,” the weekly recap of how UVA football’s 2021 Class performed on the gridiron.

Gaffney, a 6’0”, 165-pound senior, returned a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown in helping Spanish Fort (AL) to a 35-6 win over Citronelle. After dropping its first two games of 2020, Spanish Fort has won six straight contests.

Gaffney is rated a 3-star prospect by both 247Sports and Rivals.com. 247Sports has him as the no. 43 overall senior in Alabama and the no. 110 cornerback in the nation in his class, while Rivals ranks him as the no. 39 overall senior in Alabama. He has no senior highlights posted to Hudl, but here are the standout prospect’s junior season highlights:

Burke is out for the season with a shoulder injury, but Bradley Central has overcome the loss of its starting quarterback to win six of its first eight games. It’s latest victory was a 38-28 decision over William Blount last week.

Amaad Foston, RB, John Milledge Academy (Milledgeville, GA)

Foston has not played in 2020 because of a leg injury, but John Milledge Academy has overcome his absence to win its first five games of the season. Last week, JMA crushed Valwood, 56-0.

Hugh Laughlin, DL, Athens Academy (Athens, GA)

Athens Academy is a perfect 6-0 following a 6-0 win over Wesleyan. The Atlanta-Journal Constitution ranks the Spartans as the top team in Class A Private Schools division. The no. 2 ranked team, Prince Avenue Christian, faces Athens Academy this week.

Langston Long, LB, Christ School (Arden, N.C.)

Christ School captured its first win of the season last week, defeating Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, 38-35. This was a rematch of Christ School’s (1-2) season opener, in which RGN edged out the Greenies.

Jacob Rodriguez, QB, Rider (Wichita Falls, TX)

Rodriguez did not play last week because of an ankle injury, but Times Record News reports it was precautionary move and it appears he will return this season. With Rodriguez on the sideline, Rider dropped a 51-13 decision to Coronado and is now 3-1.

West Weeks, LB, Oconee County (Watkinsville, GA)

Oconee County defeated East Jackson, 36-14, to move to 6-0 on the season.

Jack Witmer, TE, Cy-Fair (Cypress, TX)

With a 34-point win over Cypress Creek, Cy-Fair is 4-0 in 2020.
