Virginia Football Recruiting: Week In Review – Micah Gaffney, Spanish Fort Advance In Playoffs

The “Week In Review” is the latest look at how the University of Virginia football program’s 2021 Class performed in the previous week. Some future Hoos have moved on to the postseason, including cornerback Micah Gaffney, whose Spanish Fort (AL) team faced off against Helena in the second round of the 6A state playoffs last week.

Hoos In The Playoffs

Gaffney and the rest of a stingy Spanish Fort defense limited Helena to seven points. The offense did the rest, posting 40 to advance to the third round of the 6A playoffs, where the Toros will meet Blount. The two teams squared off in the regular season with Spanish Fort squeaking out a 14-10 victory.

Brentwood Academy (Brentwood, TN), which features UVA-bound offensive lineman Noah Josey, rallied from 18 points down to defeat Pope John Paul II, 34-31. Brentwood faces McCallie with a berth in the Division II Class AA Championship on the line.

The Eagles downed McCallie, 30-27, in the regular season.

Christ School (Arden, N.C.), which features Cavalier linebacker commit Langston Long, cruised to a 38-0 victory over Trinity Christian in the NCISAA Division II semifinals. The Greenies, winners of five straight, face an undefeated Harrells Christian Academy in the championship.

Bradley Central (Cleveland, TN) fell to Maryville, 35-6, in the playoffs and conclude the 2020 season with an 8-4 record. The Bears played the season without the services of starting quarterback and UVA athlete commit Javin Burke, who was sidelined with a shoulder injury.

The 6’1”, 200-pound Burke does not have any senior season highlights posted on Hudl, but you can check out his junior year video below. He has the potential to play receiver, running back or defensive back at UVA.
