In the class of 2019, Virginia football signed a linebacker out of The Lovett School (Atlanta, GA) by the name of Nick Jackson, who rose to All-ACC recognition in just his second season in Charlottesville. Cavalier head coach Bronco Mendenhall now has another Lions standout linebacker in the fold. Stevie Bracey, a 6’1”, 215-pound junior, has announced his commitment to the Hoos.
“With all the crazy things that have happened over the past year (including political chaos, social injustice, and a global pandemic), this incredible opportunity is ALL God’s doing,” Bracey wrote in the tweet below. “Thank you to all family, friends, and coaches who have helped me get here. To my Mom, Dad, and Brother – Thank You for staying by my side through the early mornings, late nights, and struggles that come with the game of football. I am forever grateful for you guys. Lastly, I’d like to thank Coach Pop and Coach Mendenhall as well as the entire UVA football staff in helping me through the recruiting process. With that being said, I am excited to announce my commitment to The University of Virginia!!! #GO HOOS

Bracey, who is rated a 3-star prospect by 247Sports.com (No. 22 ILB, No. 60 junior in Georgia) and Rivals.com, was Lovett’s Defensive MVP his sophomore season, when he racked up 71 tackles and 4.5 sacks. As a junior, he earned all-region honors for his play at middle linebacker. He saw action at tight end each of the past two seasons but is being recruited by the Hoos as a linebacker.
Virginia was one of four Power 5 offers Bracey claimed, joining ACC-rival Syracuse as well as Indiana and Minnesota of the Big 10. Army, Buffalo, Central Florida, Coastal Carolina, South Florida and Tulane are among the other FBS offers he received. Bracey had Ivy League opportunities at Penn and Princeton as well.
