Virginia Basketball Recruiting Notes: Class Of 2022 Wing Ryan Dunn Visiting UVA

As Houston Wilson of Prep Hoops reported on Thursday (September 9), Perkiomen School (PA) senior Ryan Dunn is visiting the University of Virginia this weekend. Dunn, a 6’7” wing prospect, posted about his Friday morning arrival in Charlottesville on his Instagram page.

According to Wilson, Dunn’s visit is an official visit.

Dunn, who previously attended Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.), was originally part of the class of 2021. He has reclassified to the class of 2022, a move that paid off in the form of high-major Division 1 scholarship offers. Dunn announced a scholarship offer from Virginia this past July.

Last month, Dunn revealed a top eight of Boston College, Georgetown, Maryland, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and Virginia. He has since taken official visits to Pittsburgh and Minnesota.

Dunn is rated a 4-star prospect and the no. 112 overall prospect in the class of 2022 by Rivals.com. He is rated a 3-star recruit and no. 148 overall in his class by 247Sports. UVA has three 4-star commitments in the class of 2022 in shooting guard Isaac McKneely, wing Leon Bond and post Isaac Traudt. The Hoos have three scholarships still available in the class, but only Dunn and Sunrise Christian (KS) wing Bobi Klintman are known scholarship offers. The 6’8″ Klintman is a native of Sweden who transferred to Sunrise Christian for his final year of high school. He recently released a top six of Kansas, Loyola-Chicago, Maryland, Rutgers, Texas A&M and UVA.

Recruiting Period Underway

September 9 marked the beginning of a Recruiting Period, which the NCAA defines as a time when “authorized athletics department staff may make in-person, off campus recruiting contacts and evaluations.”

Many high schools conduct fall workouts this time of year. Ridge View High School in Columbia, South Carolina, held a workout on Thursday (September 9), and Virginia head coach Tony Bennett was among the visitors there to see class of 2023 post Greg Jackson.

Jackson has been offered a scholarship by Coach Bennett.

Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) point guard Caleb Foster, North Laurel (KY) guard Reed Sheppard, and Imhotep Charter wing Justin Edwards round out the list of high school juniors Virginia has offered at this point. Zagsblog.com National Recruiting Analyst Jacob Polachek reported Thursday that UVA is expected to be represented at Oak Hill Academy this week. Sheppard told Kentucky Prep Report that Kentucky, Louisville, and UVA are expected to be represented at his school. Sheppard also shared some visit news with KPR.

Kentucky remains the heavy favorite for Sheppard, whose parents are UK graduates and former Wildcat basketball players. Virginia is considered by some to be a strong second, though. Sheppard took an unofficial visit to UVA back in June, and the fact that he is returning says a lot about his interest in the Hoos. But can any school overtake UK?

In addition to checking on those prospects with offers, UVA is also evaluating other potential prospects such as 6’10” junior post Austin Parks. The St. Mary’s Memorial High School (St. Mary’s, OH) standout reports that UVA will be in to watch him this Saturday, September 11. Cincinnati, Dayton, Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State and West Virginia are among Parks’ early offers.

According to Jake Weingarten of StockRisers.com, Virginia scouted Montverde Academy (Montverde, FL) 6’9” forward Kwame Evans Jr. on Thursday. Evans Jr. who is rated a 5-star prospect by Rivals and 247 Sports, is a Baltimore native who claims offers from Auburn, Georgetown, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Texas, Virginia Tech, Xavier and others.

Weingarten reports as well that UVA is expected to evaluate Male High School (Louisville, KY) 6’6” wing Kaleb Glenn this week. Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville, Tennessee, Texas A&M and West Virginia are among the offers he is considering.
