Offensive Lineman Houston Curry Becomes First Virginia Football Commit In Elliott Era

Tony Elliott has scored his first high school commitment as head coach of the University of Virginia football program. Houston Curry, a 6’7”, 265-pound senior out of Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville, South Carolina, announced his pledge to UVA Friday (January 21).

Curry’s decision comes two days after an in-person meeting with Virginia offensive line coach Garett Tujague, who extended the UVA scholarship.

Curry, a South Carolina Football Coaches Association Class AAAAA All-State selection as a senior, chose Virginia over scholarship offers from Washington State, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, East Tennessee State, Elon, Fordham, Richmond, VMI, Washington State and Wofford, among others. He received his two Power 5 scholarship offers within the past week.

Virginia had two offensive line commits in this class before Bronco Mendenhall resigned last November. Both prospects wound up signing early with other schools, meaning Curry becomes the only offensive line prospect to commit to the Hoos in this class. The position remains a major need for UVA. Look for the Hoos to address the offensive line more on the high school front – the Hoos are expected to host at least two more offensive linemen (McKale Boley and Dawson Alters) on officials this weekend – as well as in the transfer portal before next season.
