Georgetown Grad-Transfer OL Mac Hollensteiner Commits To Virginia

The University of Virginia football program has added a third transfer this offseason, this time at the big-time need position of offensive line.

Mac Hollensteiner, a 6’6”, 310-pound offensive lineman, committed to Virginia following a weekend visit. He’ll head to Charlottesville this summer after graduating from Georgetown this spring. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining, potentially two if he uses the free “COVID year” granted by the NCAA. Virginia added two mid-year transfers this month in wide receiver Devin Chandler and defensive lineman Jack Camper.

Hollensteiner played in all 10 of Georgetown’s games in the 2021 season, receiving a Fourth Team All-Patriot League nod from Phil Steele for his performance at right tackle. He also played in nine games as a sophomore in 2019. Hollensteiner did not play as a true freshman in 2018, and the Hoyas’ 2020 season was canceled due to COVID.

Soon after his senior campaign ended, Hollensteiner announced his intention to transfer. He received many FBS scholarship offers, including Power 5 opportunities from Colorado, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt and Virginia. Georgetown offensive line coach Alex Kolt posted high praise for Hollensteiner following the UVA offer.

Hollensteiner becomes the second offensive lineman to commit to the Hoos this week, joining class of 2022 high school recruit Houston Curry. As of this writing, UVA’s projected 2022 season offensive line roster looks like this:

Seniors: Derek Devine (OT), Mac Hollensteiner (OL)
Juniors: Jonathan Leech (OT), Zachary Teter (OG)
Sophomores: Jestus Johnson III (C/OG)
Redshirt Freshmen: Ty Furnish (C), Noah Josey (OG), Hugh Laughlin (OL), Charlie Patterson (OL), Logan Taylor (OL)
True Freshmen: Houston Curry (OL)

New Virginia football head coach Tony Elliott is not done recruiting the offensive line, so look for more additions to come via the transfer portal and the high school recruiting front. Numerous Cavalier assistant coaches and staff have indicated that this was a successful recruiting weekend, so be on the lookout for more commitments, perhaps on the line.
