Virginia Football Continues Recruiting Roll With Pledge From OL Tapuvae Amaama

Tapuvae Amaama, a 6’5”, 330-pound offensive lineman out of Skyridge High School in Lehi (UT), announced his verbal commitment to the University of Virginia Wednesday (January 26), giving the Hoos 15 verbal commitments in the class of 2022. Six of those pledges have come in the past week’s time.

Amaama, who goes by the nickname of “Snoop,” revealed his college choice via Twitter.

The Utah standout’s interest in Virginia was strong prior to Bronco Mendenhall’s resignation. He was in Charlottesville on an official visit the weekend of the Virginia Tech game. The visit went very well, and the Utah standout seemed on the verge of committing before Mendenhall departed. Almost two months later, the commitment comes to fruition. Amaama informed Virginia head coach Tony Elliott of his decision in person, posting the video here.

Amaama is rated a 3-star prospect by national recruiting outlets Rivals and 247Sports. The former rates the Skyridge senior as the no. 5 overall prospect in Utah, while the latter ranks him as the no. 80 interior offensive line prospect in the nation and no. 26 in Utah.

Following his senior season, Amaama went on to play in the 2021 Polynesian Bowl.

Elliott has stockpiled the offensive line position in 2022 recruiting. Of Virginia’s 15 commitments, five are being recruited to play on the offensive line. Dawson Alters, McKale Boley, Houston Curry and Noah DeMeritt join Amaama as UVA’s class of 2022 offensive line haul.
