Signing Day Central: Virginia Football Class Of 2022

University of Virginia football signed nine high school senior prospects during the Early Signing Period, which began December 15, less than one week after Tony Elliott was introduced as the program’s new head coach. With days to work with, Coach Elliott’s primary task during the two-day early period was to keep as many of Virginia’s previous commitments in the fold as possible.

Coach Elliott and staff hit the recruiting trail hard in January. The work yielded results. Heading into today’s beginning of the Division 1 football’s Regular Signing Period, the Hoos have seven new commitments ready to sign letters of intent. The staff has focused heavily on the trenches, earning pledges from six offensive line prospects and one defensive lineman.

Stay tuned to this page for all of the latest Virginia-related recruiting news. Below is a “Signing Day News Blog” where I will post updates throughout the day. Further below is the “Virginia Football Class Of 2022” section, where I have listed the players who are committed. As the letters of intent are announced, we will change the designation from Committed to SIGNED.

In addition, Coach Elliott held a press conference discussing the class at 11:30 a.m. this morning. Sabre Editor Kris Wright posted a paraphrased summary of the presser. Click here to read it.

UPDATE, 7:50 A.M.

UVA football is off to a fast start, revealing several signees as well as some breaking news. South Carolina native Houston Curry was the first class of 2022 signee announced. That’s fitting, as Curry was Tony Elliott’s first verbal commitment as Cavalier head coach. Fellow offensive line prospects Dawson Alters and Noah DeMeritt are official Hoos too.

Virginia has also announced the signings of graduate transfer offensive line prospects John Paul Flores (Dartmouth) and Mac Hollensteiner (Georgetown). In what is breaking news, Virginia has also announced the signing of defensive end/outside linebacker Paul Akere. The 6’3″, 245-pound Akere is a graduate transfer from Columbia.

Unlike the high school seniors, who sign official letters of intent, the transfers sign non-binding grant-in-aid documents.
