Virginia fans received some good news on the coaching front this week.

UVA announced that men’s lacrosse coach Lars Tiffany signed a contract extension through 2026. The Hoos, of course, won back-to-back National Championships sandwiched around the canceled COVID season and they’re in the hunt once again in 2022. Tiffany currently owns a 62-23 (.729) overall record as the Cavaliers head coach.

This is exceptionally good news for Wahoo fans because it means all of the school’s recent National Championship coaches are under long-term contract. It’s also a wise move from UVA Athletics Director Carla Williams.

Tony Bennett, whose men’s basketball team won the all-time turn-around title in 2019, agreed to an extension following that run that carried his contract out to 2027. Brian O’Connor, who led the baseball team to the 2015 title, agreed to an extension last summer that carries his deal through 2027. Todd DeSorbo, who has led the women’s swimming and diving teams to back-to-back titles including last month’s dominant win, agreed to an extension through 2027 last summer as well.

Virginia also announced this past week that both tennis coaches have signed extensions through 2027. Andres Pedroso was the associated head coach for the Hoos when the men’s program won its first National Championship in 2013. Sara O’Leary helped guide 2021 NCAA Singles Champion Emma Navarro to the title last spring. Both programs are in the mix for a national title run.

With the good coaching news in tow, let’s look at the rest of the Fan Friday picks.
