Holmes (San Antonio, TX) rising senior guard Marco Anthony is the newest member of the Virginia men’s basketball family, verbally committing to Cavalier head coach Tony Bennett last week. Following a junior season in which he averaged 20.3 points per game as Holmes’ starting point guard, the 6’5 1/2″, 220-pound prospect impressed UVA’s head coach on the AAU circuit with quality play for Pro Skills (TX) on the Nike EYBL circuit and then at the Great American Shootout event in Dallas. The latter event sold Bennett, and Anthony quickly accepted the offer.

Anthony reflected on Virginia’s pursuit of him, his decision to commit, and much more in this Q&A-style feature.

Why UVA?

Marco Anthony: “UVA was just a perfect fit for me academically and from a basketball point, too. Being how it has a really good business school and that’s what I want to major in in college, and over the past years I’ve watched UVA a lot and I think I’d be a really good fit.”
