Paul VI (Fairfax, VA) guard Trevor Keels is headed to either the Atlantic Coast Conference or the Big East. The 6’5”, 210-pound senior, a consensus top 15 overall prospect in his class, revealed via Instagram that he has narrowed his list of schools to Duke, Villanova, and Virginia.
Keels, who received a scholarship offer from head coach Tony Bennett in the winter of his sophomore year, took an official visit to UVA in September of 2019. In this EDGE article from this past March, the standout guard recalled the experience as “amazing.”
“I actually went for their ring ceremony,” said Keels, who was joined in Charlottesville that weekend by Cavalier class of 2020 recruits Jabri Abdur-Rahim, Reece Beekman, and Carson McCorkle. Fellow class of 2021 prospect Efton Reid was on hand for the ring ceremony as well. “It was pretty cool seeing the ring up close. I just took it all in to see how the college atmosphere is. I watched their practices. I like how they practice. Had a couple meetings with [Coach Bennett]. He’s an all-around great dude.”
Discussing the system and the culture developed under Coach Bennett, Keels said: “I’d say they play a lot of defense. It’s great. They’ve got great dudes on the team. I got along with all the dudes. I know Casey Morsell. I grew up with him. It’s going to be a tough decision when it comes down to it. I just have to take it day by day.”
Rivals, 247Sports, and ESPN all rank Keels as a 5-star prospect. As of this writing a specific timetable for a decision has not been revealed; however, Keels has visited all three finalists, so a commitment may not be far off.
