Virginia Picked Second In Preseason ACC Basketball Voting

During ACC Operation Basketball on Wednesday, media in attendance cast votes for their preseason picks in the league. Virginia was well represented when the results were released Thursday.

In the preseason standings, UVA landed second with 47-first place votes and 1,699 points. That trailed only Duke, who picked up 52 first place votes and 1,709 points. North Carolina claimed 20 first-place votes and 1,641 points as the third place choice. The full standings shook out like this:

1. Duke (52) – 1709
2. Virginia (47) – 1699
3. North Carolina (20) – 1641
4. Syracuse (1) – 1268
5. Virginia Tech – 1187
6. Clemson (1) -1148
7. Florida State – 1127
8. NC State – 885
9. Notre Dame – 859
10. Miami – 816
11. Louisville – 735
12. Boston College – 568
13. Georgia Tech – 324
14. Wake Forest – 313
15. Pittsburgh – 241

Last season, the media tabbed Virginia fifth in the preseason poll. The Cavaliers, of course, went on to sweep the ACC Regular Season and ACC Tournament titles. They lost just one league game all season. That gave the program its third outright regular season crown and its second tourney title under coach Tony Bennett.

The Wahoos also landed several players on the All-ACC preseason teams. Kyle Guy earned 62 votes to make the first team, while De’Andre Hunter and Ty Jerome received 32 and 17 votes respectively to take second team honors. In the preseason ACC Player of the Year tally, Guy (5), Hunter (4), and Jerome (2) all garnered votes. UNC’s Luke Maye proved to be the run-away pick ahead of Duke’s RJ Barrett. Maye had 50 votes and Barrett had 22.
